چکیده

In this paper a Bottom-Up (BU) method of obtaining information about pronunciation variation is proposed. BU transcriptions (Tbu) were obtained by letting a CSR decide for each phone whether it was deleted or not. The Tbu were compared to transcriptions obtained automatically with a TopDown method, and the agreement appeared to be very high. Subsequently, the Tbu were aligned with canonical reference transcriptions (Tref) and on the basis of this alignment, deletion rules were derived. The BU rules were employed to generate variants which were used in recognition experiments. The results of these recognition experiments show that the information about pronunciation variation obtained using the BU method can be used to improve recognition performance.

Automatic Detection and Verification of Dutch Phonological Rules

In this paper, we propose two methods for automatically obtaining hypotheses about pronunciation variation. To this end, we used two different approaches in which we employed a continuous speech recognizer to derive this information from the speech signal. For the first method, the output of a phone recognition was compared to a reference transcription in order obtain hypotheses about pronuncia...

A latent analogy framework for grapheme-to-phoneme conversion

Data-driven grapheme-to-phoneme conversion involves either (top-down) inductive learning or (bottom-up) pronunciation by analogy. As both approaches rely on local context information, they typically require some external linguistic knowledge, e.g., individual grapheme/phoneme correspondences. To avoid such supervision, this paper proposes an alternative solution, dubbed pronunciation by latent ...

A phonetic explanation of pronunciation variant effects.

Effects of word-level phonetic variation on the recognition of words with different pronunciation variants (e.g., center produced with/(out) [t]) are investigated via the semantic- and pseudoword-priming paradigms. A bias favoring clearly articulated words with canonical variants ([nt]) is found. By reducing the bias, words with different variants show robust and equivalent lexical activation. ...
